there has to be a limit between "East of the Andes" and "West of the Andes", but where does it cross ?
we've made the choice to use the peaks located East of Quito, Cayambe, Antisana, Cotopaxi, why ? because we think that a majority of the butterflies that fly in Greater Quito belong to the Western fauna, and more particularly the most common butterfly in the city of Quito, Catasticta flisa duna, a Western subspecies.
as a whole this choice seems to work, but not really for Lymanopoda nivea, as evidenced by this picture taken by Esteban Suarez at Pasochoa of Lymanopoda nivea nivea, when at Calacali or at Yanacocha flies an undescribed ssp looking like Lymanopoda nivea bingo.
