we thought this butterfly, seen at the beginning of the climb to Buenos Aires, was Cybdelis mnasylus.

but Fernando Dias, from the Universidade Federal do Paraná - Curitiba, and who was working on a revision of this Genus, kindly informed us it was a mistake, and that it is, in fact, Cybdelis thrasylla.

this is particularly interesting because it seems that Cybdelis thrasylla had never been recorded West of the Andes.

in his Revision of the Genus Cybdelis (2019) Fernando Dias makes Cybdelis mnasylus and Cybdelis thrasylla two "good" species (thrasylla was said to be a mnasylus subspecies), and by the way, on this same dirt track, with a difference of 300 meters, we saw both Cybdelis mnasylus and Cybdelis thrasylla.
