Male

wingspan : 27 mm

this butterfly seen at las Juntas and Puerto Quito makes for a difficult identification.

it looks like Gorgythion beggina, but its HWUN is partly white, as is the case with the nominal ssp, the type of which comes from "Bolivia", with illustrated specimens on BoA coming from Pernambuco, Parà and Matto Grosso - which is very far from Ecuador Occidente.

so we think this butterfly could be Gorgythion alcandra, a species described from "Brasil", but for which Evans (1953) mentions three males and one female from Loja (Ecuador) ?
