it is extremely difficult to tell Electrostrymon endymion from Electrostrymon joya.
the type of endymion comes from somewhere in Brasil, when the type of joya comes from Loja, and this species has the typical "Western" geographic distribution from México to NW Perú.
that is why we believe this specimen, pictured by Christopher Rodriguez Moreira at Lazareto, to be probably joya.
as it is impossible to work on the pictures of the historic specimens figured on BoA, and as the only good images come from Mexico, it is not a surprise to see some differences between these Mexican joya and our butterflies from Ecuador, the more so as these Mexican specimens show visible individual variations.
